Inishowen musicians have come together to release a single in support of all the people in Ireland with homes affected by defective blocks.
Lorraine McCauley wrote 'Full Redress' with her sister, Stella Farren. The sisters, driven by personal experience and the heartbreaking stories of friends, family, and the wider community, penned the song, which is a protest song that tells it like it is. Stella’s house is affected by defective blocks and is condemned for demolition.
People are “Still paying mortgages on crumbling homes” and “it’s only a matter of time until a house falls down”.
Lorraine McCauley is a singer-songwriter, born in Carndonagh, who went on to form her indie folk band in Scotland, Lorraine & The Borderlands, supporting acts such as Deacon Blue and The High Kings and performing at festivals and live on the BBC and STV.
The ‘Full Redress’ single is due for release on Tuesday, February 19.
“This song is a battle cry in support of all the people in Ireland with homes affected by defective blocks,” they said. “ Houses will collapse, and more people will be made homeless if the Irish Government does not address this crisis.
Everyone involved in the recording of this song has in some way been affected directly by this crisis or have friends or family members that are. Lorna and Joleen of The Henry Girls contributed harp and vocals, in support of their own affected family home. Maurita Turas on backing vocals, will see her family home being demolished this year, as it is no longer safe to live in.
The Defective Block Crisis is a ticking timebomb for thousands of homes in Donegal and throughout several counties in Ireland. This is not something that can be ignored or brushed under the carpet. This song demands a Full (100%) Redress for everyone affected. Proposals from the Government to date fall short of what is needed.
