40 litter investigations carried out in Louth

23 fixed penalty notices issued
Louth County Council says its litter wardens carried out 40 litter investigations in June, with 23 fixed penalty notices issued during the month, under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.
In details relating to litter enforcements and investigations released by Louth County Council, it said that a five-hour foot patrol was held in mid-June in Dundalk. All areas of the town centre and surrounding streets were patrolled by all wardens, including Clanbrassil Street, Park Street, Bridge Street, Castletown Rd, Jocelyn Steet, St Mary’s Rd, Ramparts Rd, and Williamsons Place.
The local authority said that particular attention was paid to Aisling Park following the recent illegal dumping in June, which resulted in three lorry loads of waste being removed by Louth County Council staff. It added that the patrol vans were also parked in conspicuous positions with attached 'Anti Dog Fouling' signs on full view for public attention.
Louth County Council added that there were two Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC’s) of diesel sludge dumped in June 2024 with an associated clean-up cost of €2,496.20. The total cost for clean-up of diesel laundering waste so far in 2024 is €28,706.30.
