6,000 gullies to be cleaned in Louth by mid-December

Louth County Council November meeting
Louth County Council is to oversee the cleaning of 6.000 gullies in the county by mid-December, councillors were informed at the Louth County Council November meeting.
Councillors were informed of the plans in response to a query from Cllr Seán Kelly, who had sought an update on the gully cleaning plan in light of recent flooding in Dundalk and north Louth.
Cllr Kelly told the meeting that members had been told at a previous Dundalk Municipal District meeting that 3,000 gullies in the Dundalk area were to be cleaned by January.
Requesting that the plans be fast tracked, Cllr Kelly also asked that some estates in Dundalk be prioritised. Cllr Kelly told the Dundalk Democrat following the meeting, that the Council said that "the tender has started and will complete 6,000 gullies across Louth before mid December."
Cllr Kelly went on to say that "we asked for a list of estates and when they were being done so that we can advise local residents to move their cars to ensure we get the all of the gullies covered."
"Localised flooding is happening right across the town after heavy rain and needs to be sorted as soon as possible", he added.
