A 30 year old man who crossed the border after failing to stop for gardaí in north Louth, was convicted and fined at Dundalk District Court last week.

Ionut Lupu with an address at The Landey, Santry, Dublin 9 was originally prosecuted for dangerous driving at Whitemills, Faughart and on the N1 at Dromad arising out of the incident on 4th May last year.

The investigating garda told he had been on mobile patrol when he had tried to stop the defendant's vehicle, which continued at high speed onto the N1 northbound. The court heard the defendant had no previous convictions and works as a mechanic.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a €200 fine for a reduced charge of careless driving and said she would exercise her discretion and not disqualify him from driving.
