Ardee Bread Company development decision appealed to An Bord Pleanála

The decision by Louth County Council to grant planning permission for new retail units, apartments and a house, at the former Ardee Bread Company at Castle Street and Tierney Street in Ardee, has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

Ardee Bakery Investments Limited was granted planning permission by Louth County Council in April, for the development which is taking place at two protected structures, Ardee Bread Company, protected structure reference 13823007, and the former Sheridan’s Services house, protected structure reference 13823006.

The planned development includes construction of two apartment buildings ranging in height from two storeys to three storeys (four storeys had initially been planned, this was subsequently reduced to three).

The planned apartments comprised initially a total 20 apartments, of which six were one-bed and 14 were two-bed units, all with balconies or ground floor terraces along with provision of a communal space at roof level. The number of apartments were also subsequently reduced by two. It also sought to construct a three bed semi detached dwelling and associated garden area.

In the former Ardee Bread Company building, there are plans to develop two retail units at ground floor, two one-bed apartments at first floor level and a one-bed duplex apartment, as well as carrying out associated refurbishment works of the former Ardee Bread Company building.

The applicant is also planning the adaptation and change of use of the former Sheridans Services house to provide for a two-bed apartments and a one-bed apartment, along with the associated refurbishment works of the former Sheridans Services house.

Louth County Council granted planning permission for the development on 4 April, subject to 18 planning conditions. A Third Party Appeal against the decision was made by Mr Shane Clerkin and others on 22 April. The case is due to be decided by 26 August 2024.
