Ardee's newest eaterie Myrtle Bistro opens its doors

Myrtle Bistro opens its doors in one of Ardee's oldest townhouses
Myrtles Bistro, Ardee's newest eaterie at 3 Irish St, opened its doors to the public last week. According to local business man and chef at Myrtle Bistro, Jonathan Maltas, it will be a relaxed, laid back style restaurant and wine bar.
Bringing his 18 years of experience having worked in top kitchens in Ireland and abroad, Jonathan has created a menu that highlights his love of different cuisines, flavours and the freshest of ingredients.
Jonathan has been deeply involved in all parts of setting up and opening the new bistro, from painting the restaurant, to vetting the suppliers, to creating an exciting and varied menu with something for everyone. Vegans and Vegetarians have not been forgotten either, he says.
“It is a small thoughtful menu which will change seasonally. There will be daily specials which will be based on what I am inspired to cook and what fresh produce I can source that week “ said Jonathan.
Jonathan has put together a wine list to suit all tastes with a strong focus on organic, interesting wines, with twists on old favourites such as Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec. The wines are very affordable he believes, with a glass of wine for €7.50.
All the produce used, where possible he reveals, is being sourced from local suppliers, including organic pork from Andrew in White Mountain Farm, fresh organic vegetables from John at Rock Farm, and cheeses from Boyne Valley Cheese.
Initially Myrtle Bistro will open from Wednesday to Sunday for breakfast and lunch, with dinner being served on Fridays and Saturdays. Dinner on Thursday and Sunday could be added soon depending on the demand.
Jonathan also has plans to open a local hub for artist workshops with a gallery space for exhibitions. “We have wonderful creative talent in Louth and so often it goes unnoticed", he comments, "so I am opening up the restaurant as an exhibition space for local artists. Anybody who is interested should contact me directly “
