St Bride's GAA club in Knockbridge is seeking support for its new initiative

St Bride's GAA club in Knockbridge is appealing to its community, both local and the wider diaspora, to support its new fundrasing endeavour, Cáirde Cnoc Bríde, to develop 11 acres of land it has acquired for the development of its new sports complex.

The project is aimed, it says, at providing “a vibrant new space for all of the community to enjoy for generations to come”.

Four sports clubs are supported in Knockbridge by the local GAA. St. Bride's GAA club was established in 1927, acquiring its current playing field, Páirc an Chuinnigh, in 1952, naming it in memory of its founder, Fr. Seamus O'Cuinn.

St. Bride's Camogie Club was established in 1928, and in more recent times, Knockbridge Hurling Club was formed in 1984, initially catering to juvenile players before expanding to include senior teams in 1999. The St Bride's Ladies Football Club joined the ranks in 2006, bringing the total number of clubs operating out of Páirc an Chuinnigh to four.

The growth of these clubs, particularly at the underage level, has strained the capacity of Páirc an Chuinnigh, hence the acquisition of the land and plans for the new complex. This project is aimed at providing a vibrant new space for players of all ages to enjoy for generations to come.

The anticipated development cost for the new sports facility is within a range of €1 to €1.5 million. To help raise funds for the facility, it is seeking support and contributions from those in a position to do so.

The club is asking donors to commit to a weekly contribution of €5 or a monthly contribution of €25 until July 2026, with all donors being recognised within the new facility. They are also encouraging all PAYE workers to subscribe to the Tax Relief Scheme, where they say that the added benefit can increase contributions significantly at no cost to the donor.

The club says that donations are made to a dedicated account, ensuring responsible use of funds. It adds that of the donations, 80% will support the new development, and 20% goes towards existing facility maintenance. To donate to the fund, there is a QR code that can be scanned or those interested can visit the site www.stbridesgfc.com/donate.
