Calls for gritting programme for Market Square in Dundalk

Dundalk Municipal District December meeting
Cllr Seán Kelly has called on Louth County Council to implement a gritting programme for the Market Square in Dundalk during frosty weather, and has said that it is an issue that is raised every year that needs to be resolved.
Cllr Kelly was speaking at the Dundalk Municipal District December meeting, highlighting a slip hazard that occurs there during heavy frost.
He told the meeting that he was walking across the Square early the previous Sunday morning, and that he "nearly took off about three times", saying that the surface was "really slippy" and "impossible to navigate".
Cllr Kelly said that he would define himself as "relatively fit" and that "if people like myself are struggling, how are elderly people or other people coping?".
Calling for a gritting programme for Market Square, Cllr Kelly said that "there has to be something that can be done about the surface when we know there's frost coming" adding that otherwise "we're going to have falls, broken bones, and claims as a consequence".
Senior Engineer Paddy Connolly told the meeting in response that he would pass the request on to the relevant team in Louth County Council to look into.
