The Carlingford Lough Keepers have organised a public meeting to launch a cross-border community group providing a united voice for the protection of all nature in and around Carlingford Lough.

The meeting will take place on Saturday 26th April at 11am, Grand Central Hotel, Station Road, Omeath.  Co Louth. All are invited.

A Facebook post read: "Carlingford Lough Comtaminatioin. For those of us who love Carlingford Lough, this is serious.

“I have found out that since 2015, nutrient levels have been consistently declining, and recent tests showed worryingly high levels of E. coli and Intestinal Enterococci (a bacteria associated with human and animal waste) – well above safe limits.

“If we don’t act now, I'm really worried that this natural treasure could suffer the same fate as Lough Neagh.

“The health of our waters, communities, and future generations is at stake. I’m calling on the Executive and DAERA Minister to take immediate action before it’s too late.

“Join me in demanding urgent protection for Carlingford Lough!”

A Carlignford Lough Keeper spokesperson said: “We feel this shows the importance of setting up this committee group within the Carlingford Lough community and look forward to seeing you there.”
