A sponsored Walk and Family Fun Day held in Blackrock in memory of father-of-six David McBride has raised over €11,000 for Irish road victims.

The event was on Sunday the 18th October 2026 and raised €11,358.73 for the Irish Road Victims Association (IRVA).

This was in memory of David McBride, a father of six who lost his life in a road accident.

David sadly lost his life following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on 2nd February in Shercock, Co Cavan.

His wife Paula, who organised the fundraiser, and their boys extended their heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making the event such a success.

Paula said: "We are completely overwhelmed by the kindness, generosity and support shown by everyone. To see our school and wider community come together in memory of David and for such an important cause was incredibly special.

“We are so grateful to every single person who played a part. Every donation, every step and every helping hand made a difference."

“From those who took part in the sponsored walk, volunteered their time, donated raffle prizes, sponsored walkers and supported the activities, to the local businesses, vendors and entertainers who generously gave their support, every contribution helped make a difference.”

A special thank you was also extended to the school Principal, Mrs Lawless, School Secretary Brigitte Nelson and all the volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, along with An Garda Síochána for their assistance and support on the day.

The organisers were particularly delighted with the generosity shown by the local community and the fantastic involvement of the children, including those who participated in the cupcake competition.

The family said they would like to thank everyone once again for helping make the day such a memorable occasion and for honouring David's memory in such a meaningful way.

Every cent raised from the event, €11,358.73, went directly to the Irish Road Victims Association, supporting the valuable work they do for road victims and their families.
