Dundalk Municipal District October meeting

Speeding in the vicinity of Fatima Graveyard in Dundalk were raised at the Dundalk Municipal District October meeting, following a crash that took place that day, where the driver fled the scene.

Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District, raised the issue at the October meeting, commenting, "we have seen a persistent problem with speed of vehicles in this area. In particular cars approaching from Brid A Chrinn via Castletown Cottages and also from Toberona are using excessive speed."

Cllr Kelly continued, "the crash on Tuesday afternoon severely damaged the wall at the church, which has happened several times previously. If happened just an hour before hundreds of pupils from both De La Salle and St Louis would of been in the area.

"This also an extremely busy route for locals who use it as a walking route. We are lucky to have avoided a more serious injury or worse. Something needs to be done to address the excessive speed in area and give locals peace of mind. We need the council in conjunction with the Gardai to act here."

The October meeting heard in response that the Council officials would look at the area and see what measures could be undertaken.
