Councillors highlight traffic light sequencing issues in Dundalk

Dundalk Municipal District

Councillors at the Dundalk Municipal District February meeting, highlighted issues with the sequencing of two traffic light systems in Dundalk and asked for Louth County Council to act on the matter.

Cllr Maria Doyle was first to raise the matter at the February meeting, which was held at the Kilcurry Resource Centre, saying that she has had a number of complaints made to her about the sequencing of the lights at the Xerox junction on the old Dublin Road.

Cllr Doyle said that the timing on the traffic lights means it takes "quite a long time to get from the old Dublin Road into town and vice versa." She asked if the Council could look at the sequencing to see what could be done to have a longer green light on that stretch.

Cllr Maeve Yore also spoke of issues with the sensor on the traffic lights at Vincent's Avenue in the town and sought an update on the issue, as well as mentioning the issue at the Xerox junction. Cllr Yore said that she had previously reported the issue with the lights at the junction, saying it was fixed for three days but the issue had returned.

Cathaoirleach Kevin Meenan agreed with the comments, saying that in the mornings, just four cars are getting through the lights before they change colour. He added that traffic on the old Dublin Road was backing up for a long distance as a result.

Senior Executive Engineer, Paddy Connolly, told the meeting in response that the sensor on the lights at Vincent's Avenue was being looked into, and that the Council would investigate the issue at the Xerox junction.
