Crossborder Omeath fireworks display hailed as a "great success"

The cross border firework display between Omeath and Warrenpoint was hailed as a great success by Councillor Antoin Watters at Monday’s monthly council meeting.

Councillor Watters thanked Director of Service Thomas McEvoy and his team for all their work in organising it.

He said there were many opportunities for such future events under the Shared Island Fund in conjunction with Newry Mourne Council.

He queried how the council planned to use that funding going forward saying there was a great opportunity to make the display an annual event and “bigger and better” next year.

In reply Thomas McEvoy said that the council would be meeting with their counterparts in Newry Mourne Council in the next couple of weeks to organise the drawing up of a consultants report to decide how best to use the funds.
