The design team for the new fire station planned for Dunleer has been selected, councillors were told at the Louth County Council February meeting, held on Monday at the County Hall in Dundalk.

Cllr John Sheridan sought an update on the plans at the monthly meeting, highlighting that there was a 35% increase in the number of incidents in the Dunleer Station Area between 2021 and 2022.

Director of Services, Thomas McEvoy told the meeting in response that the design team has been selected for the project, with the Heads of Terms being agreed late the previous week, adding that they had been waiting about six months for the terms.

61 unique incidents occurred in the Dunleer Station Area in 2022. Among the most common incidents last year were 16 alarm activation incidents; ten small/bin/skip fires; nine road traffic accidents; four car fires; three chimney fires; and three domestic fires.
