Development at Francis St in Dundalk appealed to An Bord Pleanála

Decision to permit apartments at a former well known pub at Francis Street appealed
The decision to permit the construction of apartments at a former well known pub at Francis Street in Dundalk has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Louth County Council granted planning permission at the beginning of May to Shane Mc Guinness for the change of use of a former public house/nightclub at 3a Francis Street, Dundalk.
The applicant was given the go ahead to construct five self-contained residential units and one commercial unit, with restored shopfront, internal alterations and extensions to rear of premises at the location.
The site of the proposed development was previously a public house, but has been closed for some time now, prior to it closing, it was known as Nikita's Country Bar.
An appeal against the local authority's decision to grant planning permission was made by Mr Michael McCourt and others on 20 May.
Among the concerns listed by the appellants in relation to the development are: privacy; noise levels and security; security concerns involving existing boundaries; and security and fire hazard concerns involving roof space.
An Bord Pleanála is to decide on the case by 23 September 2024.
