Dolores gets tattoo to raise funds for Young at Heart Club

Local woman Dolores Waller from Muirhevnamor last week found herself in the tattooist chair in Dundalk’s Tattoo Room as she got inked to raise money for the Muirhevnamore Young at Heart Club.
“We’re trying to raise money to keep the club open, it’s only a small club and there’s really nothing coming in,” said Dolores.”
Not wanting a tattoo that would be too big or take too long to do, she chose a small heart with wings.
“I didn’t want to go for anything too big, it was a nice wee tattoo.
“I never felt a thing, it was just like sitting on a dentist chair, I said it was just like getting a filling. It was the same when I got the first one done.”

The young at heart club is a big part of her life and she says it helps her and the other members get out and socialise.
“I’ve been in the club twelve years and it would be a sin if it had to close because it’s a great wee club and it’s great craic, so it is important to me, it gets you out for the few hours.”
Over € 200 has been raised for the club through sponsorship so far.
The Young at Heart Club has been a mainstay of the community for decades and is run by Niamh Morrissey who has been helping to run the club for over ten years and whose mother helped run the club for twenty years before that.
“We meet up every Wednesday from 2-4 in Muirhevnamor Community Centre,” Niamh explained.
“When people come in they get tea or coffee and something to eat and we do bingo and some weeks we’ll do movie weeks.”
“There’s a woman coming into us now for the next three weeks and she’s doing arts and crafts one week, meditation and mindfulness the next and a class on cooking one pot meals for under a fiver on the third.
“The more people we can get into it the more we’ll be able to do even more activities.
“To raise a wee bit of money Dolores said she’d put herself forward to get a sponsor tattoo done and fairplay to her.”
The Muirhevnamor Young at Heart Club meets every Wednesday from 2-4 in the Muirhevnamor Community Centre and is open to all in the local community with new members welcome.
