Dundalk Athletics Track near completion says Independent Councillor Maeve Yore

Independent Councillor Maeve Yore who said she has single handedly lobbied and raised the need to develop Dundalk Athletics Track over the last seven years at every council meeting and opportunity, said she is delighted that the works are progressing and close to completion.

The facility has a new, eight-lane 400-metre synthetic running track, a central field space, dedicated long jump/triple jump, shot put, high jump, pole vault, javelin facilities with equipment storage areas.

Cllr Yore told the Dundalk Democrat that she is delighted to report works have commenced on an attenuation tank for storm drainage and foundations and base poured last week for the floodlights, with the floodlights on order with the hope that they will be installed and operational by Quarter 4 2026.

“I go up to the Track bi weekly to check progress and am on first name terms with the contractors at this stage who keep me updated on developments”, said the Independent councillor, who saw Matthew Cohen Trackmaster International in action last week.

“Matthew’s company is doing the line marking and track certification and Trackmaster International is accredited by World Athletics for onsite and laboratory testing as well as services for precision survey checking and track line marking globally.

“I am absolutely ecstatic that Dundalk Athletics Track is on ‘the final lap’ of works and hopes the opening will be before the end of Summer 2026.

"It will be a phenomenal, transformative asset to schools, clubs, athletes across our Town and County”

Cllr Yore concluded by acknowledging and appreciating what she said was the phenomenal work and expertise of Stephen, Project Lead and Senior Engineer with Louth County Council; the commitment of Chief Executive David Conway and his Management Team; and the knowledgeable input from local athletics club representatives to get this transformative project up and operational for present and future generations of athletes.
