A 45 year old man who was charged with careless driving after a collision at an accident blackspot, was fined €200 at Dundalk District Court last week.

Judge Gerry Jones heard that Bernard Leddy of Fern Court, Newry was driving a white Transit van on March 26th  2022 and approached Dungooley crossroads from the Forkhill side without stopping and collided with a Peugeot car whose driver, was coming from Kilcurry and had the right of way.

The court was told the defendant was on his way to inspect a job when the collision occurred at what is "a known accident blackspot" and had stopped earlier to allow a lorry through.

The Defence solicitor stressed that Mr. Leddy was not travelling at speed, slowed but didn't stop and "unfortunately went out".

The court also heard that the civil aspect had already been dealt with.
