A 21 year old motorist who caused a collision, when he overtook a car that was turning into a hotel car park, has been fined at Dundalk District Court.
Nikoden Lickiewicz of Ard Carn Park, Newry was prosecuted for careless driving arising out of the incident at Carrickarnan, Ravensdale on October 19th last year.
The court heard another motorist was indicating on the R132 to turn into the car park of the Carrickdale Hotel when the defendant's VW Golf came from behind, travelling norht and attempted to overtake them. He struck the initial car, before colliding with a third one that was parked.
The court was told the first driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and the defendant suffered a burn to his wrist from the airbag deploying.
The defendant is a fourth year electrician and a letter was handed into the court from his employer. The Defence solicitor said his client doesn't recall seeing an indicator and the car in front of him had come to a complete halt, so he took evasive action very quickly.
He explained that the offence was being admitted as there was a double continuous white line on the road and he ought to have waited. After hearing he was fully insured at the time, but he had been unable to drive for the last year as his Insurer would not renew the policy with the case pending, Judge Ciaran liddy imposed a €100 fine.
