Dundalk court: Sentenced for no motor insurance

A woman with 13 previous convictions for driving without insurance was sentenced for a 14th such offence
A woman with 13 previous convictions for driving without insurance, was last week sentenced to four months at Dundalk district court for a 14th such offence.
Rose McGinley (49) of Cois Croinn, Saltown, Dundalk was summoned for an offence at Cois Croinn on September 11th last year.
The court heard she had a total of 68 previous convictions.
The Defence solicitor acknowledged his client “has a terrible history for no insurance” but he stressed that most of them go back sometime, when his client used to be a regular before the court.
He added that she is attending a neurosurgeon and is bringing up a son who was involved in a traffic accident.
The solicitor stressed that Ms. McGinley has made efforts for quite some time not to come before the court.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan said she was taking into account the guilty plea, but said in circumstances where there are 13 previous for no insurance 'nothing other than a custodial sentence' would be appropriate.
In addition to the four month sentence, Judge McKiernan disqualified her from driving for 10 years and at the request of the Defence fixed recognizance in the event of an appeal.
