Dundalk Seek project highly commended at digital awards

‘Digitalising Local SEEK Walking Tours’ highly commended in the Digital Tourism category
Dundalk’s ‘Digitalising Local SEEK Walking Tours’ project has been recognised for its efforts in digital innovation at the .ie Digital Town Awards 2024.
The project has been highly commended in the Digital Tourism category for its unique approach to walking tours in the area. .ie, the winners were announced at a Gala event held in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, Co. Westmeath today.
In 2023, Creative Spark FabLab started to look at ways of improving walking tours to make them more accessible and become self-led.
This ambition was achieved by linking local murals to the wealth of knowledge that was already available thanks to the urban arts initiative SEEK which existed in the town.
The decision was made to add signage to each mural with a QR code that brings the visitor directly to the information section of the corresponding mural of SEEKdundalk.ie.
The project highlights the important influence art can have in the public domain, it’s role as a catalyst for change, inspiring local pride as well as helping to reinvigorate and refresh some of our town centre spaces.
Many historical events and figures have shaped Dundalk through the ages, and the themes behind the artwork will be instrumental in telling Dundalk’s story and connecting people to our heritage.
