Dundalk woman with 86 previous convictions jailed for shoplifting

A 35 year old woman who admitted a series of shoplifting offences was sentenced to a total of 10 months at Dundalk district court last week.

Jennifer Maguire with an address at Doolargy Avenue, Muirhevnamor, Dundalk was given consecutive four month terms for three of the charges, with the final two months suspended on her entering a 12 month Probation supervision bond.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan marked the other charges taken into consideration.

Evidence was given of 12 separate incidents of shoplifting on dates between July 24th 2021 and April 15th last, mostly at premises in Dundalk.

The Defence solicitor said her client, who had 86 previous convictions including theft, had a chronic alcohol addiction.

The court heard Ms. Maguire accepted that she was looking at a custodial sentence and hoped to use her time there to engage in counselling.
