Dundalk's Cllr Nash welcomes new measures to tackle littering

New measures have been put in place by Louth County Council to tackle litter black spots
Dundalk South's Cllr Robert Nash has welcomed news this week, that new measures have been put in place by Louth County Council to tackle litter black spots around Dundalk town.
In comments to the Dundalk Democrat, Cllr Nash said, "only last week I met with council officials to discuss ways in which we could combat persistent littering which is happening around our town, and in particular around Williamson's Place, where large scale dumping has become a problem on a daily basis.
Cllr Nash went on to say that businesses in Williamson's Place have been badly affected by this problem, so much so he said, that many were considering finding premises elsewhere.
"These businesses pay their rates and taxes like everyone else and are entitled to feel aggrieved by the appalling condition in which customers have to navigate to avail of their services", the Fine Gael councillor added.
The installation of cameras in the future, fines, along with tenant and landlord responsibility were all solutions that were discussed at last weeks meeting. At the meeting however, Cllr Nash also suggested the possibility of litter wardens deviating away from their standard work schedule, in a bid to establish exactly when this dumping is taking place and possibly identifying the culprits.
Cllr Nash commented, "it's very easy for people to dump when they know exactly when the litter wardens are not around, so I welcome the news this week that litter wardens will now be working more unconventional hours and furthermore commend Louth County council on being so pro active on this issue."
