Culture Night is an annual all-island public event that brings communities together to experience and celebrate Ireland’s rich and diverse cultural life, it is supported by The Arts Council and Louth County Council.
Culture Night began as a modest local event in 2006 over roughly 40 venues, before becoming a nationwide phenomenon within a decade reaching thousands of venues.
It even survived through the Covid-19 pandemic as it became a hybrid of digital and in-person events.
RTÉ replaced their annual concert with a series of special broadcasts, commissioned performances and live concerts across television, radio and online. And through a partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs cultural unit events were held in London Paris, Berlin and New York.
The night will include a wide range of free performances and events across Louth, however there is limited capacity which requires advanced booking.
Visitors can explore the Watch Until The End exhibition by Emerging Visual Artist in Residence Emma Ray as the Basement Gallery opens late throughout the evening. This exhibition investigates the phenomenon of “Digital Ennui”, the psychological exhaustion and cognitive dissonance caused by the endlessly scrolling. Emma will also host creative tactile art workshop on this theme for teenagers and adults 6pm and 7.30pm.
Children and families can also get involved in puppet-making at a 6.30pm workshop with Will Guppy in the Basement Workshop Room.

The Bó Studios gallery shop is also available to visitors, who can pick up a piece of art from one of the professional artists housed in the studio.
Film lovers can experience ‘It’s Not Yet Dark’, an award winning documentary which tells the story Simon Fitzmaurice, a talented filmmaker who attempts to make his first feature film while living with Motor Neuron Disease.

After this a theatrical performance of ‘Chop’ will take place at 8pm, which explores a wildly absurd descent into fragile masculinity, environmental collapse, and the insatiable hunger for more.
The programme will be brought to a close by a musicians Roisin Ward Morrow and Alice Robinson at Square Restaurant.
