16 roads in north Louth that were affected by the severe weather last Halloween have been allocated funding for repairs in the Louth County Council Road Works Programme for 2024.

Councillors approved the allocation for this year at the Dundalk Municipal District March meeting. €1,000,000 out of the €17,789,045 budget for this year is to go towards the repairs for the 16 roads.

The 16 roads and the amounts allocated are as follows:

Tullagh, Omeath €34,000
Jenkinstown €108,000
Ballymakellet €220,000
Annaverna €69,000

Ravensdale Park €21,000
Rathcor €45,000

Savage's Hill, Carlingford €16,000
Piedmont €21,000
Ballaverty €6,000

Councillors at the March meeting, welcomed the funding allocation. Cllr Antóin Watters pointed out that Louth County Council has initially requested €1,600,000 in Government funding for these particular repairs and asked how the shortfall would be met.

In response Senior Engineer Paddy Connolly said that the initial €1.6 million included works on bridges and culverts and they would make the €1 million cover the costs needed for the 16 roads, with hopefully funding being made available for culverts and bridges later on.
