€4.28 million for Louth health and social care infrastructure projects

Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed €4.28 million worth of funding for Louth health and social care infrastructure.

Senator McGreehan’s Fianna Fáil colleague, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, yesterday announced total funding of over €1 billion for infrastructure projects under the HSE’s Capital Plan 2023.

The plan will progress and deliver a range of acute and community projects across the country and provide increased capacity in the health system.

Senator McGreehan said: “I’m delighted to receive confirmation from my Fianna Fáil colleague and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly that Louth is set to receive €4.28 million for health and social care infrastructure projects through the HSE’s Capital Plan for 2023.

“Some €2 million of the funding has been allocated to St Mary’s Hospital, about €800,000 has been allocated to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for refurbishment works and for a Psychiatry of Later Life Unit, while some €200,000 has been set aside for replacement works at Ardee Ambulance Base.

“These infrastructure works will vastly improve health services in Louth in the coming year."

The government say the HSE plan will facilitate reorienting the model of care away from acute hospitals and towards primary and community settings and addressing capacity and infrastructural deficits that exist in the health and social care services. It also builds on measures required due to Covid-19.

A significant allocation of funding is to deal with infrastructural risk and replacement of equipment including ambulances.

Senator McGreehan added:

“This investment demonstrates Fianna Fáil’s commitment to investing in Ireland’s healthcare infrastructure and supporting the move towards universal healthcare.”

Announcing the funding, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said:

"I am delighted to approve the HSE Capital Plan 2023. This is a plan that demonstrates the government’s commitment to investing in Ireland’s healthcare infrastructure and to support the move towards universal healthcare.”
