The Hare's Corner biodiversity initiative offers practical advice and support to households looking to protect its biodiversity

Louth County Council have announce that the Hare's Corner Biodiversity Initiative will be open to Louth households for the first time.

The initiative, created by the Burrenbeo trust, offers free practical advice and support to landowners who want to protect biodiversity and increase climate resilience.

The Hare's Corner supports the creation of wildlife ponds, mini-woodlands, heritage, or "bespoke plans for nature" on private land, farms, schools and community spaces.

Helen Hanratty, Biodiversity Officer with Louth County Council, said this is a "fantastic opportunity for anyone in Louth who wants to make space for nature".

"The support of Burrenbeo advisors will provide tailored recommendations and practical support to help landowners create habitats that benefit biodiversity and wellbeing," she said.

Applications run from January 1-18, 2026. Although, places are limited and priority will be given to schools and community groups.

However, farmers in the ACRES or NPWS Farm Plan Scheme are not eligible to apply.
