Louth accounted for almost 88% of adults in emergency accommodation across the North-East

A total of 143 adults were accessing emergency accommodation in Louth during the week of July 20–26, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing.

The July 2026 Monthly Homelessness Report shows that Louth recorded 143 adults in State-funded local authority emergency accommodation during the specified count week. The figure is 4 less than reported in June.

The figure accounts for almost nine out of every ten adults recorded across the North-East region.

The North-East, which comprises Louth, Cavan and Monaghan, recorded a total of 163 adults in emergency accommodation. Of these, 143 were in Louth, while a combined figure of 20 was recorded for Monaghan and Cavan.

Nationally, 11,868 adults were accessing emergency accommodation during the same week, meaning the Louth figure represents approximately 1.2 per cent of the national total.

The figures form part of the Department of Housing's monthly homelessness statistics, which count people accommodated in emergency accommodation funded and overseen by housing authorities during a specific week, typically the last full week of the month.

The North-East recorded the lowest regional total in the country in the July figures, with 163 adults in emergency accommodation.

Louth's 143 adults therefore make up around 88 per cent of the North-East regional figure.

The report also shows that the North-East had 28 adults aged between 18 and 24, 83 aged between 25 and 44, 46 aged between 45 and 64, and six aged 65 or over.

Across the region, the largest age group was those aged between 25 and 44.

The national figures show that people aged 25 to 44 accounted for 6,138 of the 11,868 adults in emergency accommodation, or 51.7 per cent.

Nationally, the July figures show that private emergency accommodation remained the largest accommodation category for adults experiencing homelessness.

Of the 11,868 adults recorded nationally, 8,550 were in private emergency accommodation, while 3,320 were in supported temporary accommodation and 121 were in temporary emergency accommodation.

For the North-East, 66 adults were recorded in private emergency accommodation, 95 in supported temporary accommodation and two in temporary emergency accommodation.

The Department's report separately records families and children in emergency accommodation.

Across the North-East, there were 21 families recorded during the week of July 20–26, including 15 single-parent families. These families comprised 30 adults and 53 children under the age of 18.

The national picture was considerably larger, with 2,724 families and 5,659 children recorded in emergency accommodation.

Of the families nationally, 1,568 — 57.6 per cent — were single-parent families.
