Louth County Council December meeting

The Louth County Council December meeting saw Rachel Kerley co-opted as a councillor to Louth County Council, to take the seat vacated following the election of Paula Butterly to the Dáil in the recent general election.

The newly co-opted Cllr Kerley had run in this year's local elections in the Ardee Electoral Area, narrowly missing out on being elected in her first run in a local election.

In comments to the Dundalk Democrat following the December meeting, Cllr Kerley said: “I am deeply honoured to have been co-opted to Louth County Council from the vacant position of Paula Butterly TD to represent our vibrant community. Having very narrowly missed out in the local elections earlier this year, I am even more determined to bring energy, focus, and fresh ideas to this role."

The Fine Gael councillor continued, “my priorities are rooted in the needs of the people I represent. I am committed to delivering improved street lighting and enhanced traffic calming measures on rural roads to ensure safety in our community.

“I also want to be a strong voice for young people, advocating for opportunities and services that empower the next generation. Supporting local sports clubs, which play such a vital role in bringing our community together, is another key focus of mine. Additionally, I am determined to work toward better accessibility so that no one is left behind."

Cllr Kerley added, “Ardee is a fantastic place to live, work, and raise a family, but I know there is always more to do. I look forward to working closely with local residents in the areas as councillor to bring about real and lasting improvements for everyone.”
