Free shows and quiz at Toales Rock Bar and Live Venue this week
This week Toales Bar on Crowe Street will host a Pub Quiz in aid of the Louth Filmmakers Society as well as two free acoustic shows.
Thursday 25th January
Pub Quiz in aid of Louth Filmmakers Society - 8.30pm - Toales - €50 bar tab prize
Sure ye can't beat a good ol' pub quiz, a load of craic, heated discussions and head-scratching as you're bombarded by general knowledge questions.... and all for a great cause - Louth Filmmakers Society is designed to help train, facilitate and promote local filmmakers. Starts at 8.30pm.
Friday 26th January
Free acoustic show featuring Shock Sorrow plus support Trist.
Another of Toales' free intimate acoustic gigs inside in the bar, this time featuring Shock Sorrow. Joining forces from the ashes of former metal and rock bands, Keith and Steff Caffrey united to form alt-rock/acoustic two-piece Shock Sorrow.
Their distinctive signature of highly personal lyrics delivered with truly impassioned vocals, balanced with poignant guitars has earned them their reputation as some of the best songwriters in Ireland’s acoustic rock scene.
Support comes from Dublin singer/songwriter Trist.
Saturday 27th January
Free acoustic show featuring Alice Robinson plus support Ice Pop.
The last of January's highly successful and memorable intimate acoustic shows inside the bar and what a finale - Alice Robinson is a Louth based alternative singer-songwriter that creates musical and lyrical vocabularies that are unique and deserve our critical attention.
An inimitable artist, Alice's vocal style drifts uneasily, luring in the listener with pretty and tender vocal lines before succumbing to heartrending shouts and wails of suppression and resistance. Support act IcePop, who describes himself as “icy pop musician from a freezer in Dublin”.
His music, and his videos, brim with absurd and surreal humour set to perfect hooks.
