Historian and author Dr Cormac Moore, will give a lecture based on his newly published book

The County Museum, Dundalk, has announced details of a talk to be held at the Jocelyn Street venue at 7pm on Thursday, 22nd May.

Historian and author, Dr Cormac Moore, will give a lecture based on his newly published book The Root of All Evil: The Irish Boundary Commission.

The book explores the fascinating and infuriating story behind the Commission’s failure, which would abandon large numbers of Northern nationalists close to the border and have long-lasting, catastrophic consequences for the entirety of the island of Ireland.

Museum Curator, Brian Walsh, said: “We are extremely lucky to have Cormac speak on this subject. As we are all too well aware, the Border was, and continues, to be one of the most contentious and emotive issues in our history, it therefore so important that we continue to familiarize ourselves with the background as to why historically defining decisions were made and how (and why) these remain significant today.”

Dr Cormac Moore is a historian-in-residence with Dublin City Council and a columnist with The Irish News.  He has published widely on Irish history, including the books Laois: The Irish Revolution, 1912–1923, Birth of the Border: The Impact of Partition in Ireland, The Irish Soccer Split, as well as The GAA v Douglas Hyde: The Removal of Ireland’s First President as GAA Patron.

Admission to the lecture is free, but prior booking is essential.  Refreshments will be served on the night.  Bookings and further information can be made by contacting the County Museum at 042 93 92999.
