LIVE UPDATES: Louth take on Monaghan in huge All-Ireland Quarter-Final in Croke Park
The Louth senior footballers are bidding to book an All-Ireland semi-final spot in a much-anticipated quarter-final tie with Monaghan. Gavin Devlin’s men secured their quarter-final spot with a famous win over Armagh on June 14
We are in Croke Park today for the meeting of Louth and Monaghan in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-final.
Gavin Devlin’s Louth players pulled off a famous win earlier this month to reach this stage as they saw off Armagh on a 2-20 to 2-19 scoreline. Captain Sam Mulroy was the hero in Inniskeen as he scored an unlikely goal with the last kick of the game.
It was the Wee County’s first championship win over their near neighbours and was enough to send Louth fans into optimism mode again after a Jekyll and Hyde summer so far.
Louth began the season as reigning Leinster champions but hardly raised a challenge against Dublin in this year’s semi-final with the Boys In Blue inflicting a 10-point defeat on Louth in Portlaoise.
Their next outing was against Dublin again in the first round of the All-Ireland series and Louth won a thriller in Croke Park, prevailing on a 4-18 to 1-24 scoreline. They backed that up with their win over Armagh.
The other counties still in with a chance of lifting Sam Maguire later this summer are Louth’s opponents on Sunday, Monaghan, as well as Kerry, Dublin, Mayo, Galway, Tyrone and Cork.
