Louth cllr continues to push for water mains extension to Kilcurry

Louth County Council June meeting
Cllr John Reilly raised the issue of a lack of mains water in Kilcurry at the Louth County Council June meeting and asked if works that are currently ongoing could be extended to the area.
Cllr Reilly told the June meeting that Uisce Éireann were installing new water mains, starting at Castletown Cross and going out as far as Toberona Bridge.
The Dundalk-Carlingford councillor said that it was about another 1.7 or 1.8km to Kilcurry and said that it would be a golden opportunity to extend the mains to the area.
Cllr Reilly said that He said that “people feel the frustration that it is only 4km from town and they feel as if they're in the middle of the Amazon jungle, because they are not able to acquire the simple service of [mains] water.”
He said he has written to Minister Kieran O'Donnell on the matter and is waiting on a reply, but added that it was a golden opportunity as it was a “long running issue, going on since the 1970's” and that it is “of the few areas in the county without mains water.”
In response Director of Service, Bernie Woods, said that she would raise it with Uisce Éireann but added that the contracts are in place and the works would end at the bridge. Ms Woods added that any new works would have to go out to tender and they couldn't “just extend the scheme”.
