Louth cllr welcomes Government commitment to Narrow Water Bridge

Funding through Shared Island Fund allocated to construction of bridge
Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr Andrea McKevitt has said that the Government's commitment this week under The Shared Island Fund to see the Narrow Water Bridge brought to fruition, "shows the unwavering dedication this Irish government have to see the bridge finally built to connect Warrenpoint to Omeath".
Cllr McKevitt was reacting to the news this week of the funding announced by Government through the Shared Island Fund for the construction of the Narrow Water Bridge.
The c.200m cable-stayed and rolling bascule bridge will link the Mourne Mountains and the Cooley Peninsula, and is expected to provide huge tourism and connectivity boosts in the east border region. It is also expected to act as a key catalyst for improved cross border active travel and recreational activities, including the development of greenways, walking trails and park amenities.
The Fianna Fáil councillor said that "It has always been my viewpoint that this significant piece of infrastructure that will connect North and South will recognise the peace which now exists on our island.
"Endless work, research and effort has gone in by a vast amount of people over a long period of time in the hope that this bridge would one day be erected. That day is now here and we eagerly anticipate the days when we can cross the Narrow Water Bridge."
