Repak’s Pakman Awards are held annually and celebrate Ireland’s recycling and waste management champions

NR Rubber Products has been named the winner of the Tyre Champion award at the 2024 Pakman Awards.

NR Rubber Products, based in Dromiskin county Louth, specialises in creating matting from repurposed tyres, using 100% recycled materials. They have produced 15,000 m² of roof safety matting, which recycled approximately 600 tons of rubber crumb which is equivalent to around 99,600 tyres. Additionally, they manufactured 5,600 m² of matting, recycling 168 tons of rubber crumb, which corresponds to about 27,888 tyres. This commitment to sustainability not only helps reduce waste but also provides high-quality, durable products for various applications.

Repak’s Pakman Awards are held annually and celebrate Ireland’s recycling and waste management champions who lead the way in their commitments to sustainability and the environment. Winning a Pakman Award is one of the highest accolades an organisation, company, community group or individual can receive for their environmental and waste management efforts.

The 2024 Pakman awards saw representatives from leading businesses and community groups come together to recognise excellence in recycling and waste management. All category winners on the night were automatically put forward for the Overall Pakman Award, which was won by Soltec (Ireland) Ltd.

Minister Ossian Smyth, Minister of State for Communications and Circular Economy, congratulated the winners, stating: “The 2024 Pakman Awards showcase the remarkable achievements of individuals, businesses, and communities working to create a more sustainable future. These awards inspire all of us to take part in Ireland’s transition to a Circular Economy.”

Zoe Kavanagh, CEO of Repak, praised the winners and emphasised Louth’s significant contributions to environmental sustainability at the Pakman Awards, stating: “This year’s entries were some of the most innovative and impactful we’ve seen. Louth-based companies NR Rubber Products and Soltec (Ireland) Ltd are setting an outstanding example and leading the way toward a more sustainable future. Their success is a testament to the county’s commitment to environmental innovation and resourcefulness”

Another highlight from this year’s awards saw the Irish Cancer Society and community organisations, FoodCloud receive a €1,000 donation each. Charities were nominated by attendees and pulled from a charity draw on the night.
