Says residents of the Cooley peninsula are facing hazardous conditions

Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr Andrea McKevitt is calling for an "immediate addressing of potholes in the peninsula", and says that "residents of the Cooley peninsula are facing hazardous conditions due to the severe potholes plaguing our roads."

Cllr McKevitt who raised the matter at the Dundalk Municipal District April meeting, said that "these poor conditions pose a risk to not just the motorists but cyclists and pedestrians alike."

The Fianna Fáil councillor said that "the deteriorating road conditions are unacceptable and that immediate action is required to address the worsening issue. Particularly bad ares include the Old Road Bellurgan, Rathcor and various potholes along the main Dundalk–Carlingford road.’’

In addition to highlighting these areas Cllr McKevitt spoke of the "declining pothole now like a small pond facing the residents on the Annaloughan road" which she said she has been continually raising since it first appeared following the floods at Halloween.

She commented, "it is imperative that these potholes are filled to last as opposed to just filled in as a temporary measure for the potholes to reappear after a heavy shower of rain which unfortunately at present is never too far away."

Councillor McKevitt added that she was advised that these potholes would be addressed and tended to.
