Louth County Council opens Dog Enrichment Park in Dromiskin

Official opening of an Enrichment Park at the state-of-the-art Dog Pound in Dromiskin
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Councillor Kevin Callan, carried out the official opening of an Enrichment Park at Louth County Council's state-of-the-art Dog Pound in Dromiskin on 6 November.
Speaking at the event, County Veterinary Officer Garrett Shine, explained that the pound was a greenfield build which was officially opened in 2005. Since its opening, the pound has won many awards as it was, and is still, one of the best of its kind in the country. However, the one thing which it lacked was an outdoor space for the dogs.
Now, with the addition of the outdoor park, dogs can be let out for long periods each day playing with runs, jumps and balls. It has already proven benefits to the health and well being of the dogs in the pound.
Councillor Kevin Callan, who attended the event with his rescue dog “Bertie”, congratulated all involved in the project and recognised the staff who continually go over and above in their care for the dogs who pass through their doors.
Finally, Temporary Chief Executive, Joe McGuinness, added to the congratulations to the staff of the Veterinary Section of Louth County Council and in particular to the addition of the space which is the first of its kind in the Country.
He added that this space assists the Local Authority carry out its statutory duty in the care of animals and also acknowledged the ongoing works at the site where the pound is now Louth County Council’s first carbon neutral building following the installation of a full array of technology.
