Louth groups can avail of €1 million fund for Community CCTV schemes

Minister for Justice has announced €1 million for the development of Local Authority led CCTV schemes
Louth County Council can now avail of funding announced today by the Minister for Justice for the development of CCTV schemes in specific communities.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee today announced a further €1 million for the development of Local Authority led CCTV schemes in specific communities. Making the announcement, the Minister said, "I encourage all local authorities to develop proposals for schemes in their areas in partnership with local community interests.
"I also encourage interested community groups to engage with their Local Authority to highlight needs for schemes in their areas."
The CCTV scheme has been reformed to give Local Authorities the lead role and to allow community groups to request local authorities to consider schemes in their area.
Funding is now available, the Minister's Department says, to cover not only new CCTV systems but to allow funding applications to extend or upgrade existing CCTV schemes which are incomplete or obsolete.
Local Authorities can now also seek a once-off grant of up to €5,000 for minor maintenance costs. The Department says it is now open to applications from Local Authorities for funding.
