Louth homeless figures continue to climb
Monthly Homelessness Report September 2023
The number of homeless people in Louth and the North East region continues to climb higher according to the latest figures released last Friday.
185 people accessed emergency accommodation in the North East during the week of 18-24 September 2023, with 163 of them in Louth. This is up from 183 in the North East in August, which included 161 in Louth.
Of the 185 adults, 28 were aged 18-24; 102 aged 25-44; 45 aged 45-64 and ten aged 65 and over.
34 families, which included 83 child dependents also accessed emergency accommodation in the North East in September.
This is down from 38 families with 87 child dependents in August.
Nationally, 8,923 adults and 3,904 child dependants were recorded as homeless in September, giving a total of 12,827 homeless people, up from 12,691 reported in August.
Commenting on the latest figures, David Carroll, Chief Executive of Depaul, said that: “We can't afford to normalise these figures - housing, services and funding must meet the needs of the people caught up in this housing crisis and adults and children experiencing long term homelessness must be prioritised.
“Depaul continues to be concerned about the severe impact on individuals and families caught in temporary accommodation.”
