Louth man avoided disqualification for careless driving

A 45 year old lorry driver who crashed a scrambler motorbike he was seen riding in an erratic manner, swerving 'over and back' across the road, has avoided a driving disqualification, after completing a driving skills course.
Martin McMasters of St. Oliver's Park, Carlingford had been prosecuted for careless driving at Bavan and Ardaghy, Omeath and driving without insurance or a driving licence at Ardaghy on March 19th 2020, and pleaded guilty to one count of careless driving and driving uninsured.
The court had previously heard how he had made off after seeing the Garda patrol car and the officers later found the defendant lying on the ground, after he was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
The defence solicitor said his client had badly injured himself.
The court was told Mr. McMasters had a number of previous convictions, dating back to offences committed in 2007, including aggravated burglary and assault causing harm but his solicitor stressed that he 'really has turned his life around' and his employment is very important to him.
Judge McKiernan put back the case to this week, and after Judge Gerry Jones was told the defendant had completed a safe driving course, he imposed a €200 fine for careless driving.
