Louth man fined and banned for dangerous driving

A Garda has told Dundalk District Court how the driver of a car, which she saw being driven at speed as she was leaving Omeath Garda Station, was signalled to stop and failed to do so.
She said that he then drove on the wrong side of the road, across the centre white line and at Cornamucklagh, the black Audi also crossed onto the wrong side of the road and continued across the border.
The garda said she was able to identify Peter McGuigan (35) of Bavan, Omeath as the driver, as the car passed the patrol vehicle shortly before 3pm on March 25th 2020.
A second garda gave evidence of being called to check out a property, while on mobile patrol two days earlier and speaking to the defendant who was in the driver's seat of the black Audi.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan convicted the accused in his absence of dangerous driving at Knocknagoran, Omeath.
A €400 fine and a four year disqualification were imposed, but Judge McKiernan fixed recognizance for an appeal on the defendant's own bond of €300 with an independent surety of €500 cash to be lodged.
