Louth people are being invited to vote for a local tenancy support project which has been shortlisted for an award at the Irish Council for Social Housing Allianz Community Housing Awards.

The Cara Project is a service delivered by the Housing Association for Integrated Living (HAIL). The service provides support to people in local authority and social housing who have a mental health diagnosis and need help maintaining their tenancy.

Support workers from HAIL help their clients maintain their tenancies and live independently by providing professional support on developing mental health recovery plans, household and budget management, pursuing employment and education opportunities and maintaining links with family and friends.

HAIL provides this support across Louth to people who have been referred to them by the council or local HSE mental health team.

Commenting today, HAIL CEO Martina Smith, said: “We are delighted that the Cara Project has been shortlisted for an award at the upcoming Irish Council for Social Housing Allianz Community Housing Awards.

“The Cara Project initially started in 2015 as a pilot project in Laois and Offaly under the Government’s National Housing Strategy for People with a Disability (2011-2016). Due to the success of the Cara Project, the service is now provided across 16 local authorities over 13 counties, including in Louth.

“We are pleased with the positive impact the Cara Project has had in Louth. The Project is an excellent example of how a number of agencies can all work hard together, with the one aim of providing secure and comfortable homes for people living with mental health difficulties. HAIL would like to thank the local council and HSE team for their support with the Project.”

Members of the public can vote for the Cara Project by visiting the ICSH website here.

Voting is open from Monday 2 October until Monday 16 October. The winners will be announced at the Irish Council for Social Housing Allianz Conference in Wexford on the 18th-19th of October. The Cara Project is jointly funded by The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the HSE.
