A section of the Newtownstalaban Road in Drogheda will be closed

Louth County Council has announced plans to temporarily close a section of the Newtownstalaban Road in Drogheda next August to facilitate the construction of a new roundabout as part of the Port Access Northern Cross Route Phase 2 project.

The closure will affect the L-16731-101 Newtownstalaban Road between the Newfoundwell Road junction (R-166-32) and the Newtown Link Road junction (L-77023-201).

The road will be closed to vehicular traffic from Tuesday, August 4, 2026, until Friday, August 28, 2026. Local and emergency access will be maintained throughout the works.

Motorists will be diverted via Newfoundwell Road and Newtown Link Road, with the same route operating in the opposite direction.

Members of the public who wish to object to the proposed road closure may do so by submitting a written objection, clearly marked “Road Closure Objection,” to John O’Hagan, Senior Engineer, Major Capital Projects & Infrastructure Delivery, Louth County Council, County Hall, Millennium Centre, Dundalk, Co. Louth, A91 KFW6, or via the council’s online consultation portal, no later than 12 noon on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
