Louth volunteer acknowledged with ReStore Gold Award
Volunteer celebrated at Habitat Ireland’s Building Hope event
Habitat for Humanity Ireland recently held its Building Hope event, bringing together the ‘Habitat family’ across Ireland to celebrate 30 years of breaking down barriers, building hope and all of the impacts that Habitat have locally and around the world.
The event is also a great opportunity for Habitat to recognise individual volunteer’s contribution. This year Ryan Doherty, who volunteers at ReStore Drogheda, the charity’s social enterprise, was presented with a ‘ReStore Gold’ award.
Jenny Williams, Chief Executive of Habitat Ireland, presented the awards, and spoke about the impact ReStore has for the local community.
“Ryan has been involved with ReStore Drogheda since before the store even opened, helping with painting and any task required. Since the opening of the store Ryan has been a committed and enthusiastic member of the team who continues to push himself to learn new skills.
"He is a very well-liked member the ReStore Drogheda team, always willing to help others maybe and has recently reached 1,000 hours of volunteering with us.”
“ReStore volunteers, across five ReStores in NI and one in Drogheda; now invest 3,500 hours every month in reaching out to their local community and each one of them makes a huge contribution to our mission.”
Through ReStore, Habitat builds sustainable communities and directly tackle poverty across Ireland. Each year the charity serves thousands of local people; many who cannot afford commercial prices to improve their homes, diverts tons of reusable material from landfill which helps build a more sustainable future and provides training and employment opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
