Cllr Reilly has written to minister calling for an extension of the Clar funding

Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr Reilly, has written to Minister Heather Humphrey's TD calling for an extension of the Clar funding to the entire Dundalk/Carlingford constituency.

The CLÁR programme (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) provides funding for small-scale infrastructural projects in rural areas. It aims to support sustainable development in identified areas by attracting people to live and work there. The funding works in conjunction with local funding and on the basis of locally identified priorities.

Over 8 million euros has been made available through Clar funding in the latest round. As it stands, according to the Fine Gael councillor, the areas that are eligible for this funding are limited, with the likes of Kilkerley, Kilcurry and Faughart missing out due to their border location.

Cllr Reilly says he is very frustrated that this area can't apply for Clar funding and that they are being left out. "The border areas have been left behind, and as the only Cllr living in the Faughart area, I would be neglecting my duties to not campaign for money." he states.

In his email to the Minister, Cllr Reilly stated that areas like Faughart, Kilcurry and Kilkerley are missing out on millions of euros due to their location.
