Man convicted of criminal damage after kicking a SUV in Dundalk car park

Man (38) sentenced to three weeks for criminal damage charge
A 38 year old man who kicked a SUV in the car park at Tesco Extra was in an intoxicated state at the scene, the vacation sitting of Dundalk district court heard last week.
Judge Vincent Deane was told that Mark Boland with an address at the Simon Community, Barrack Street, Dundalk was convicted in his absence in December of causing criminal damage, using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and being intoxicated in a public place on May 5th 2020.
Gardaí were called to the scene by security after a Hyundai Santa Fé was kicked once by the accused.
The court heard Mr. Boland, who had 34 previous convictions including a number for public order offences, had been in custody since July 24th.
The Defence solicitor said that the 38 year old is an alcoholic who has been on the streets for many years and the offer of a house was at risk "on getting a sentence".
Judge Deane imposed a three week sentence for the criminal damage charge, backdated to when the defendant went into custody and marked the other charges taken into consideration.
