Man jailed after gardai discovered €35k worth of drugs in his Louth home

Man (26) admitted having over €35,000 worth of drugs for sale or supply following two separate garda raids at his home in Dunleer
A 26 year old man who admitted having over €35,000 worth of drugs for sale or supply following two separate garda raids at his home in County Louth, was jailed for a year and nine months at Dundalk Circuit Court last week.
Stephen Traynor with an address at Ravel Grange, Dunleer admitted committing the offences at Ravel Grange, Dunleer on October 23rd 2021 and February 12th 2022.
The court heard last Wednesday that on the first occasion, gardaí recovered cocaine with a street value of €4,623 in the property along with €860 in cash and the key to a car in which a further €756 worth of cash and €15,120 euro in cannabis were found, along with the defendant's bank documents.
During the second garda operation, four months later, while on bail for the first offence, he was seen carrying shopping bags, which contained over €15,000 worth of cannabis.
He told gardaí he owed a drug debt and was given the money and drugs to hold.
The court heard he had 12 previous convictions (mostly for road traffic offences and one for unlawful possession of drugs) and was assessed as being at moderate risk of re-offending.
However, Judge Dara Hayes noted the defendant has broken contact with a negative peer group, is drug free and attends the Red Door project.
He imposed sentences totalling four years and nine months, and suspended the final three years on him entering a good behaviour bond, placing himself under the supervision of the Probation Service for 12 months post release.
