Having been struggling with an injury for some of last year, Terry Kiernan showed no signs of rust at the weekend, shooting a great score of 31 points to win Division 1, beating Mr Consistent Patsy Hoey by one shot.

Since handing over the captaincy to Mr Barry Conroy, Michael O‘Rourke’s game has gone from strength to strength, as he showed by shooting a brilliant score of 31 points. He beat Darren O’Reilly on the countback, who also played some super golf on his way to 31 points.

Division 3 was also won on countback with Gavin Gonnelly taking first place with 31pts. He did very little wrong, beating Michael Marley, who also had 31pts.

Stableford 13 Holes 12th March 2023: Div 1 Terry Kiernan (PH.10) 31pts, Div 2 Michael O’Rourke (PH.16) 31pts, Div 3 Gavin Gonnelly (PH.20) 31pts.

MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS

Mannan Castle Seniors had many brave souls that ventured out in less than ideal conditions on Tuesday last.

Sun, rain, and snow appeared at various times. While there were a number who didn't finish, they couldn't be faulted. The scoring reflected the conditions, and 18 points was the winning score for the 9 holes.

The evergreen Eddie Rouiller was the winner overall on countback from Jimmy McMahon, who took category 1 ahead of Graeme Woodcock. In category 2 David MacGuinness won with 17 points.

Tuesday 21st March (9 hole handicaps): Overall: Eddie Rouiller (11) 18pts c/b, Category 1: Jimmy McMahon (8) 18pts, Category 2: David MacGuinness (10) 17pts.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES

The inclement weather put paid to the Weekly competition, but there was still drama in the last week of the Spring League Team event before the final standings were announced.

The Painted Lady team built on the slim lead they carried forward from last week, and the five more points they collected were enough to carry them across the line to take the 2023 Spring League title.

Heroic efforts by some of the Speckled Wood team, including playing in snow showers, paid off handsomely by earning them this week's top marks.

With the Meadow Brown team taking the four points, after the mandated adjustments were made across the board both teams finished on the same total points.

The destiny of second place was decided on the fourth qualifying card, which swung it in favour of Speckled Wood. Never can it be said that your score doesn't count.

Spring League Team Event: Winners: Painted Lady 30 pts: Marie Finnegan, Kitty Sharkey, Bridie Fitzmaurice, Maureen Crawley and Margaret Flanagan.

Runners Up: Speckled Wood 25 pts c/: Mary MacNamee, Jo Barry, Margaret Bourke, Aine Fitzmaurice and Evelyn Brady.

Individual Category Winners: 0 - 18.5 Madeleine Devine, 18.6 - 25 Denise McGuinness, 25.1 - 32 Angela McBride and 32.1 - 45 Carmel Lennon.

Much appreciation to the hard-working handicap and competition team for their dedicated work reviewing cards, scoreboards, and finalizing the league and categories, as well as the weekly competitions all spring long.

That wraps up the Spring League season of competitions for this year.  Congratulations to the winners, and well done to every single player who supported the event and their teammates by getting out to play diligently every week.
