Anti-Dumping Initiative

Louth County Council has plans for mattress and sofa amnesty days in both Dundalk and Drogheda this year, with a collection point also in the planning for Ardee.

While specific dates have not yet been announced by the local authority, it has indicated that the events will take place this September.

Funding for the initiative has been allocated by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, through the Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities (WERLA’s) to support Local Authorities in 2023 Anti-Dumping Initiative (ADI).

The 2023 ADI aims to reduce incidents of illegal dumping by identifying and delivering projects aimed at tackling illegal dumping ‘black spots’ throughout the County and adhere to key measures of prevention, abatement, education & awareness and enforcement.

The Department continues to strongly encourage innovative projects, which recognise waste as a resource that can be repurposed for use in a Circular Economy.

A total of eight project applications were submitted by Louth County Council for approval under ADI 2023 totaling €157,741.68. They are as follows:

  • Mattress and Sofa Amnesty Event – V&W Dundalk Recycling Centre
  • Mattress and Sofa Amnesty Event – V&W Drogheda Recycling Centre
  • Mattress and Sofa Amnesty Collection Point – Ardee (location to be confirmed)
  • Castletown River Clean-up
  • Muirhevnamor Alley-way Clean-up
