Applicant seeks planning permission for change of use of former public house

New plans are underway for the construction of apartments at a former well known pub at Francis Street in Dundalk.

Shane Mc Guinness has applied to Louth County Council for planning permission for the change of use of a former public house / nightclub at 3a Francis Street, Dundalk.

The applicant is seeking the go ahead to construct five self-contained residential units and one commercial unit, with restored shopfront, internal alterations and extensions to rear of premises at the location.

This is the second recent application for a development at the site. Louth County Council has refused planning permission in October for seven self-contained residential units and one commercial unit.

In its refusal, the local planning authority said that “it has not been demonstrated through the submitted details that the proposal for seven residential units and a ground floor commercial unit would create a quality residential development”.

A decision is due on the new application by 3 February 2024, with submissions due by 13 January.

The site of the proposed development was previously a public house, but has been closed for some time now, prior to it closing, it was known as Nikita's Country Bar.

The premises changed hands several times over the years, and was previously known as the Francis Street Inn, Lawlors, and in the mid 2000's as Good Time Charlie's. It was also renamed as Hannigan's, The Bar and also Mr B's Disco Bar.
